In this paper, a resource allocation scheme is pro- posed for wireless relay networks to achieve maximum system throughput in terms of achievable average mutual information with low computational complexity. A relay network, which has single source node, multiple relay nodes and single destination node, is analyzed from the information theory point of view. Both sufficient and necessary conditions are derived for the best relay node selection, and a close-form of optimal power allocation between the source and the relay nodes is obtained. Application of the proposed resource allocation schemes in practical relay networks with incomplete channel state information is also studied. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed resource allocation schemes in wireless relay networks.
