Anonymous networks enable entities to send \tmessages without disclosing their identities. Many \tanonymous networks had been proposed already, such as \tMixnet, DC-net, Crowds, etc., however, they still have \tserious drawbacks. Namely, they require tremendous \tcomputation overheads to transmit messages over networks. \tThat is because asymmetric key encryption algorithms are \tused. This paper proposes ESEBM (Enhanced Symmetric \tKey Encryption based Mixnet), a new mechanism for \tanonymous communication that removes drawbacks of \texisting anonymous networks while exploiting symmetric \tkey encryption algorithms. According to experimentations, \tthroughput of ESEBM is about 1/4.4 of usual \tnon-anonymous networks, and it achieves more than 36 \ttimes higher throughput compared withMixnet. In addition, \tdifferent from existing anonymous networks, ESEBM can \thandle reply messages without any additional mechanism, \tand it can protect itself from various threats, e.g. DOS \tattacks and message forgeries.
