On the Lepton Masses

A. I. Solomon · Progress of Theoretical Physics · 1962

An expression is derived for the real mass of a charged fermion which possesses a phenomenological anomalous magnetic moment. In the case of a lepton with a small anomalous magnetic moment due to the effect of an intermediate vector boson, the resulting expression is shown to be a quadratic equation in the real mass. It is found that an anomalous moment for the lepton small enough not to conflict with existing experiments allows the roots of this equation to be identified with the muon and electron masses.
