Intermitstations: the anywhere/manytime and manywhere/manytime wireless communication approaches

Genaro Hernández-Valdez, F.A. Cruz-Pérez, D. Lara-Rodríguez · 2003

In this paper a new architecture for wireless communication networks, called intermitstations, is proposed. An intermitstations system consists of two or more non-overlapping infestations systems operating in an intermittent and sequential form, in this way, intermitstations systems spatially distribute in a time-multiplexed fashion the total system capacity and, as a consequence, coverage delay relative to infestations systems is reduced. Intermitstations systems are intended to provide high speed wireless communications services with low cost per transmitted bit in a variety of different environments, including highways and hot spots in urban zones. Also, in this paper, a mathematical model for the probability density function of coverage delay in both infestations and intermitstations systems is developed. In this analysis, the velocity of a mobile is assumed to be a random variable, which is modelled both using a truncated normal distribution and a uniform distribution.
