A wireless packet dropping algorithm considering fairness and channel condition
Chen Yuan, Lemin Li · 2004
Traditional call admission control and packet scheduling algorithms cannot avoid network congestion completely when service flows are highly bursty. An appropriate buffer management strategy can manage the buffer efficiently, and avoid or relieve congestion, so as to guarantee QoS. Because of unique issues in the wireless channel, strategies in wireline networks cannot be applied directly to a wireless network. We propose a fair dropping algorithm called CFD (channel-sensitive fair dropping) to decide the drop policy in wireless networks when congestion occurs. The algorithm considers both channel condition and fairness so as to achieve a tradeoff between throughput and fair services. We build a simple model of the algorithm and present simulation results to show the performance improvements.
