Time slot assignment using cell partitioning in CDMA cellular systems
Kohji Takeo · 2002
There are methods for dividing CDMA cellular systems in the frequency, time, and space domains to enhance system capacity and improve system efficiency under nonuniform traffic conditions. This paper evaluates a system in which time slots are assigned to subareas of a cell divided by a cell partitioning technique. These time slots are assigned according to different patterns in adjacent cells. The uplink system capacity is increased by only about 4% under a uniform traffic distribution by adjusting the uplink power level for every subarea. Evaluation with a hot-spot model showed that the uplink quality could be improved when cells are adaptively partitioned according to the traffic distribution.
