A SYSTEMATIC APPROACH FOR THE ANALYSIS OF ROUNDOFF NOTSE IN FLOATING POINT DIGITAL FILTERS

In this paper, a systematic approarh for the analysis of Ioundoff noise in floating point digital filters is presented. To make tlie analysis tractable, a high level model to deal with the errors in the inner product operation is presented. Along with the model, an efficient proredure to keep track of the addition scheme used in the inner product, and to compute the statistics of the errors is introduced. A systematic procedure based on the model is then developed to derive general expressions for tlie roundoff noise of FIR and IIR filters.
