While much has been written about the theoretical basis for constructionism attempted in more traditional school settings, the Constructionist Learning Laboratory at the Maine Youth Center offers the first opportunity to document a full-scale implementation of constructionism in an computationally rich alternative-learning environment built and directed by Seymour Papert. This paper shares examples of work done by severely at-risk students and offers a context for thinking about alternative-learning environments in the digital age. Research Setting
