Zacharie J-L Doerr, Claude Laguë · 2009 Reno, Nevada, June 21 - June 24, 2009 · 2009

The general objective of this work was to evaluate the effectiveness of a Laser Measurement Systems (LMS) mounted on an agricultural vehicle at detecting foreign objects in standing crops. The end purpose of such a system would be to detect objects or obstacles that may cause damage to autonomous agricultural equipment. A SICK LMS 291-S14 scanner was placed on a tractor to scan standing crops in which standard test objects had been placed. Test parameters included the type of crop, crop maturity, shape & height of object, scan angle, and speed of vehicle.
