Power control in wireless CDMA: performance with cell site antenna arrays
Ayman F. Naguib · 2002
To combat the near-far problem, tight power control is essential in the use of direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) communication systems. Recently, antenna arrays and adaptive beamforming at base station were proposed for improving system performance. This paper studies the closed loop power control (CLPC) performance with antenna arrays (AA) and adaptive beamforming through a combination of analysis and discrete event simulations. Our results show that with small angle spread, adaptive beamforming with AA has little effect on the CLPC performance. However, with larger angle spread, better performance is obtained due to space diversity.
