Protel: a high level language for telephony

PROTEL is a state-of-the-art high-level programming language designed specifically for telephony applications. It is widely used at Bell-Northern Research in the development of modular software for the DMS-1001 series of digital switches. This paper describes the major features of the PROTEL language and its support system.
