Engineering project management techniques and their application to computer projects

Guy Carter, Churcher Clare, D.C.J. Thorogood · Software Engineering Journal · 1987

Project management is a topic which occurs on an increasing number of college and university courses in engineering and computing. Inspection of syllabuses will reveal the same tools and techniques being covered in both ‘hard’ engineering disciplines (such as mechanical engineering) and ‘soft’ engineering (such as computing science). This paper describes those tools and techniques and looks at the difficulties in applying them successfully to projects concerned with building computer-based information systems.
