The effects of Ricean fading channel on fast frequency hopping spread spectrum communication systems
R.H. Muammar · 2002
The performance of a fast frequency-hopped multilevel frequency-shift keying (FFH/MFSK) system operating through noisy, fading multipath channels is investigated. Additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and Rice distribution with random-to-specular ratio (K) are used to model the microcellular environment. The effect of a Ricean fading channel on user capacity is evaluated. Expressions are derived for the bit error rate of the OOK modulation scheme in the Ricean fading channel. At an average bit error rate of 10/sup -3/ and with perfect transmission (where the only degradation is due to mutual interference), the system capacity and the spectrum efficiency are found to be 209 users and 33.44% respectively. In microcellular environments the system capacity and spectrum efficiency are found to be 169 and 27.2% respectively, at the same error rate.>
