Properties of solutions to the initial‐boundary value problem for a porous media‐type equation

Abstract The initial‐boundary value problem in a semi‐infinite strip (0, ∞)×(0, T ) for a degenerate parabolic equation of the form u , t = φ( u ) xx + b ( x )φ( u ) x is considered. The properties of solutions in the case where the initial function is compactly supported and for constant initial and boundary data are investigated.
