REGENERATIVE RECORDING IN MAN-MACHINE DIGITAL SYSTEMS,
Harold Sackman · Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) · 1963
Regenerative recording refers to the capability for complete computer system playback. In the recording mode, all inputs to the live computer operation are recorded in the sequence in which they occur. In the rerun mode, a playback of the recorded inputs into the operational program system reproduces the original computer run. Although the playback notion is ancient history in data processing, successful capability for total digital reruns is recent for complex systems such as SAGE. The two year developmental experience with regenerative recording in SAGE is reviewed. Possibilities for extended use are described for military, training, programming, and research applications. Methodological advantages and limitations of the regenerative recording concept are generalized for man-machine digital systems. (Author)
