Towards network-aware data mining

As our ability to collect, store, and distribute huge amounts of data increases with advancing technology, discovering the knowledge hidden in these ever-growing databases has become a pressing problem. This problem referred to as data-mining, an effort to derive interesting conclusions from large bodies of data, is an interactive process. In fact, interactivity is often the key to facilitating effective data understanding and knowledge discovery. In such an environment response time is crucial because lengthy time delay between responses of two consecutive user requests can disturb the flow of human perception and formation of insight. However, extracting knowledge from these massive databases is a compute and data intensive process which makes the task of guaranteeing quick response times difficult.
