Dynamic channel allocation in a reservation-type packet transmission cellular system

A packet switching system uses a channel only when a signal to be transmitted is generated. Consequently, channel efficiency is higher than in circuit switching systems due to the statistical multiplexing effect. Among such systems, the PRMA (packet reservation multiple access) system, which is a kind of reservation-type packet multiple access system, has received interest because of its simple algorithm and large capacity. This paper proposes a reservation-type packet transmission system in which the base station performs channel allocation. The performance is evaluated by computer simulation and it is shown that the proposed system has the best performance. © 2000 Scripta Technica, Electron Comm Jpn Pt 1, 83(10): 40–47, 2000
