Fundamental theory on regeneration of high‐quality image

Abstract In many cases of image description, it is often required to maintain high distinctivity to deal with the dissolving ability of the human eye. However, since ordinary images contain high redundancy, in the processes such as storage, transmission and processing with which a human operator is not concerned directly, it is desirable to compress the image information into the least but necessary size to achieve efficiency. In this paper, we attempt to establish a rational theory when a high‐quality image containing redundancy is reconstructed from compressed image information. We have obtained a reconstruction theory for a high‐quality image as well as a concrete formula to reconstruct an image by an interpolating polynomial. Thus, it seems to be useful to apply the results of this paper to establish an image processing technique to make many practical images, such as TV images, facsimile images, CT images, of high quality.
