Representation of product model in collaborative design based on semantic web technology

During product collaborative design, product models lack enough semantics to express the product data explicitly and formally because of the diversity and heterogeneity of product data as well as the limitation of the existing product model expression. To overcome these weak points, semantic web technology is employed to represent the product model. Ontology is used to describe the product model and web ontology language is used to express product model instances concretely in collaborative design. In this case, collaborative design can be effective in achieving sharing, exchange, reuse, and collaboration of product data based on Internet.
