Speech Analysis-Synthesis Scheme Using Continuous Parameters
Calvin G. Howard · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1956
A device for processing speech for transmission over a narrow-band communication channel is described. This device analyzes the speech wave form and extracts certain parameters continuously as a function of time. These parameters have been used to control a speech synthesizer utilizing local excitation functions to simulate vocal and turbulent sources. Equipment to carry out the analysis-synthesis procedure as it exists in its present state is discussed as well as consideration for its inclusion in a complete band-width-compression system.
