The Future of String Theory

John H. Schwarz · Physica Scripta · 1987

Future progress in string theory will derive from various different approaches to the subject, as well as deeper understandings of the relationships among them. Once a fundamental principle and its implications for "string geometry" are understood, there will be progress on many exciting questions including space-time singularities, early universe cosmology, and compactification. The era of string theory is likely to last for many decades and have far-reaching consequences for the understanding of fundamental physics and mathematics.
