The dawn of cloud based DVR services

Cloud or Network based DVR/PVR (nDVR/nPVR) Service has faced a number of legal and economic hurdles over the years. Operator interest in nDVR has accelerated significantly recently to support multi-screen IP devices. One of the critical driving economic factors is the changing mix of `single copy' vs. `multiple copy'. We model the key cost drivers to show operators the economic impact of offering cloud based DVR services, addressing the important issues with capital costs: trade-off between storage, transport and transcoding. This will allow operators to show the economic justification for offering Cloud based DVR Services.
