ABSTRACTThis article presents the main ideas of an approach to database mining involving search for complete, or close to complete, domain classifications in terms of attribute values. The objective is to find classifications which are based on interacting or related attributes and provide good characterization of the concept of interest by maximizing predefined quality criteria. This article introduces the notion of the classification complexity and several other measures to evaluate connections among attributes, classifications, and the concept of interest. In addition to that, an algorithm for searching for classifications is also presented. The approach is illustrated using results of a commercial market database analysis.
