BOOK RECOGNITION AS AN EXAMPLE OF FLAT AND STRUCTURED OBJECTS CLASSIFICATION
Alessandra Dal Cengio Leonardi, Stefano Messelodi, L. Stringa · Cybernetics & Systems · 1995
A book classification system based on global information extracted from the book cover is presented. The system can be viewed as a solution of a more general task: classification of flat and structured objects. It works through the following phases: object acquisition, object localization, features value computation, and matching to the objects stored in a database. Each phase is explained for the book recognition problem. The ability of the system to recognize a book in a set of about 430 books is illustrated in the experimental results section.
