Fitting an ellipse is equivalent to find the roots of a cubic equation

In this paper will be prove that fitting an ellipse, according to the minimization of the squares of algebraic distances, is equivalent to calculate the roots of three cubic equations. The programming code to implement this solution is very small, without to need any special numeric library. Furthermore, possible numeric problems of the implementation are analized and several simulation results are shown to validate the proposed implementation.
