Recent works in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have focused on the survivability. However, there has been no prior work to assess the survivability in systematic way. Accordingly, this paper presents a survivability model of WSNs using software rejuvenation through Markov process as well as rejuvenation threshold condition for WSNs. The survivability model using Markov Process is able to show the reflection of state transition of real WSNs. We also express downtime and costs due to downtime duration during rejuvenation. Threshold conditions for rejuvenation in WSNs are also derived in this paper which is very beneficial. Depending on the rejuvenation threshold, we can make a decision whether software rejuvenation is beneficial and cost-effective for WSNs or not. The proofs of example scenarios show the feasibility of our approach.
