Asymptotic optimization of multilevel quantization for a signal processing system containing an OR-ing device

In previous studies, performance models were developed for a system composed of quantizers followed by an OR-ing device and an accumulator. In this article, a method is presented to determine the breakpoints and the levels of the quantizer by maximizing the detector efficacy. Asymptotic and finite sample performances are presented and compared with the previous results. In order to improve the performance of the asymptotic detector for the finite sample case, a slight modification is suggested while maintaining a reasonable asymptotic performance.
