Counting irreducible polynomials over GF(3) with first and third coefficients given

We obtain some formulae to find the approximate values of the number of irreducible polynomials of degree n > 2 over GF(3) in which the coefficients of xn-1 and xn-3 are prescribed. We compare and find that our estimates are close to the exact values.
