A New Adaptive Multistage Filter for the Removal of Impulse Noise

Annupan Rodtook · International Journal of Uncertainty Fuzziness and Knowledge-Based Systems · 2001

We propose and analyze a new single-pass filter designed to restore images highly corrupted by the impulse noise. The filter involves three stages designed to detect particular patterns of noise. The filter recognizes the "short line like" or the "short curve like" patterns of noise which enables us to preserve fine details. Our simulations show that the proposed new filter overperforms the conventional multilevel median filter, the two-state and the multi-state-median filter.
