Developments in telephone switching systems

Modern stored program controlled, digitally switched exchanges are discussed. It is suggested that although the technology changes have been dramatic many exchange features can be traced back to the manual systems. The ability to provide an integrated services digital network which is equally suited to speech, data and image communication is considered to be the most significant advance
