This article gives a detailed insight into the mathematics of the HCD model. The application of the Tichonov theorem reduces the model to a single Riccati differ-ential equation for the adjustment to sensitometric data, providing the parameter identification process. The elaborated way of closed integration is of special importance for the analysis of the toe region of the photographic characteristic curve.
