Electrofacies Based on Piecewise Log Trends

Summary A new method allows to partition any log section into piecewise trends. The boundaries between the sub-intervals are assigned dynamically, based on best-fit criteria of consecutive samples of a facies-sensitive log like Vshale. This allows the assignment of an electro-facies which is based not only on the values of the log curves, but also on their vertical trends (log-motifs). The method has been successfully applied to derive facies-models in various filed studies, an example is shown.
