Challenges and opportunities in optimization of automotive electronics
Serge Leef · 2010
Modern vehicles are complex, distributed compute and control systems. The number of compute nodes is growing rapidly. While historically each node/function was designed by independent teams in isolated silos, the complex interplay of 60+ computers communicating on multiple networks over a half dozen protocols is forcing the automotive electronics design teams to take a more holistic, system-wide view of their design and implementation problems. Since elimination of even a single node or reductions in cable lengths result in profound per vehicle savings, there has been growing interest in applying optimization techniques to these distributed systems. This presentation will provide an overview of the challenges, review key variables and propose a framework where modern techniques can be applied to achieve automatic or semi-automatic optimization.
