Delta tension curve for better log quality. [Cable tension measurements to identify hanging or sticking of logging sondes]

It is generally accepted that wireline sondes stick or hang up now and then during logging. These intervals are easily identified on log prints when the tool is one that records in ''real time'' such as resistivity log or an acoustic log. Not so easily identified on log prints are the pull-tight intervals of statistical tools such as the gamma ray, density and neutron log. Examples of wireline logs that appear normal but are in fact virtually useless due to sonde sticking are discussed. As a solution to identify logs with pull-tight intervals the author suggests that wireline logging service companies add a delta tension curve to all statistical types of logs. Examples of logs with such curves are shown.
