Effects of Listener Criteria on Speech Identification
Charles Speaks, James Jerger · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1966
A series of experiments was undertaken to determine whether the theory of signal detectability could be applied meaningfully to the task of synthetic sentence identification. The observers were four normal-hearing listeners. Results suggested that observers generated ROC curves consistent with the theory and that one can derive a measure of performance in this listening task that is independent of changes in the listener's criterion.
