Analysis of braking noise and vibration measurements by time—frequency approaches

Jacques Charley, Guillaume Bodovillé, Gérard Degallaix · Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Part C Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science · 2001

This paper presents an analysis of braking noise and vibration measurements using the short-time Fourier transform (STFT), Morlet wavelet transform (WT) and Wigner—Ville distribution (WVD). These time—frequency analysis tools are described and applied successively to a simulated signal and to experimental measurements performed during a braking test. Particular attention is paid to the dependence on rotational speed, and on the correlation between noise, vibration measurements and other physical parameters.
