UANTITATIVE evaluation of heart-rhythm disturbances is of special interest, since it allows more definite conclusions to be drawn as to the causes and mechanisms of hemodynamic disturbances as well as the therapeutic effect of anti-arrhythmic drugs.Short electrocardiographic recordings do not always fully reflect the picture of deviation in rhythm, nor does prolonged visual monitor control allow exact quantitative evaluation. The tape recording of bio-electric phenomena of the heart and its ensuing analysis by general purpose computers with special peripheral devices gives a satisfactory evaluation, but the technical complexity involved impedes their application in everyday practice. The purpose of the present communication is to describe a special information computer, Andros-R, which analyses disturbances in heart rhythm, and to give a typical case report which illustrates its clinical applications6) (Fig. 1).
