Ensemble Computing for the Petroleum Industry

Summary "Computer downsizing" is one of the most often used buzzwords in today's competitive business, and the petroleum industry is at the forefront of this revolution. Ensemble computing provides the key for computer downsizing with its first incarnation, i.e., workstation farms. This paper concerns the importance of increasing the productivity cycle and not just the execution time of a job. We introduce the concept of ensemble computing and workstation farms. Then we discuss how different computing paradigms can be addressed by workstation farms.
