Multirate techniques in narrow band FIR filters

Narrow band filters require a sharp cut-off. This results in vast computational and storage requirements, and hence difficulties in their real-time implementation. This paper introduces the decimation/interpolation concepts, as used in the multirate systems, in a non-analytical way in terms of frequency spectra and sampling theorems. It demonstrates also how a multirate arrangement can be used to achieve a large reduction in computations and storage requirements.
