The deterministic CRLB for DOA estimation in non-Gaussian environments
Jiyan Huang, Qun Wan · 2010
The determination of Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) as an optimal criterion for direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation problem is a very important issue. The CRLBs have been derived for the Gaussian noise. However, a practical wireless environments are not only affected by the Gaussian noise but also non-Gaussian noise which is due to the impulsive nature of man-made electromagnetic interference and a great deal of natural noise. In this paper, the CRLB is derived for DOA estimation in non-Gaussian environments, which has not been studied in the literature. Since the non-parametric kernel method is utilized to estimate the noise probability density function, the CRLB derived is suited for all kinds of noise distribution. Computer simulations are included to contrast the CRLBs in different noise environments.
