A view of academic computing in China

John E. Skelton · ACM SIGUCCS Newsletter · 1989

Early last summer I had the privilege of spending six weeks in the People's Republic of China. The visit was sponsored by the Chinese Provincial Universities Project which is funded by the World Bank. One of the purposes of the project is to improve the use of technology in the provincial universities. Thus I spent four weeks as the guest of Anhui University in Hefei, the capital of Anhui Provence. These observations are mine alone and do not represent the views of any other organization or individual. The information was gained by either direct observation or a little bit of research into existing information.
