Abstract machines modelling network control systems

K. Hopper, H. J. Kugler, Cynthia A. Unger · ACM SIGOPS Operating Systems Review · 1979

A major problem in designing computer systems is to match the needs of all types of computer users with the real resources available. The concept of an abstract machine working for the user is introduced to overcome this problem. The applicability of this concept in a wide variety of practical environments leads to the development of a proposed standard architecture for network control systems.
