Effect of location on the latency in cluster-based WSNs

Deepa Padmanabhan, Fabrice Labeau · 2013

LEACH is a clustering protocol used in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) for monitoring and surveillance applications. In these applications, latency is often an important criterion. Identifying the factors the latency depends on helps minimize the latency in the network. The dependence of the latency experienced by a node on its geographical location is an area that has not been explored in detail. This paper describes the results of our research in determining whether the geographical location of the nodes has an impact on the delay experienced by them. Networks with different node densities were considered. The results of our research show that the latency experienced by a node is indeed dependent on its geographical location as well as the node density.
