A heuristic approach to solve the elementary sprint optimization problem for non-cross-functional teams in Scrum

One goal of Scrum is to deliver as much added value as possible for the customer at the end of an iteration but in an environment with multiple different customers and stakeholders the definition of value varies. Therefore we defined the concept of value in the context of an OEM in the automotive industry for management information systems. We identified seven relevant value dimensions in a first case study and in a second case study we investigated the relation between the seven different value dimensions. Afterwards we define an optimal iteration based on our value definition for multiple non-cross-functional teams and show that this problem is a NP-hard problem. Finally we present a heuristic approach to solve this problem.
