Further Study of the Isopreference Method of Circuit Evaluation

Experimental evidence is presented in support of the isopreference method for evaluating speech-transmission circuits. The method, originally proposed by Munson and Karlin, [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 34, 762–774 (1962)], derives a one-dimensional scale suitable for use in rating communication circuits. This study is a similar experiment using a larger number of subjects. It demonstrates that the method is reproducible even for circuits of poorer quality than those originally investigated. It also suggests several improvements in technique.
