Direct surface triangulation using the advancing front method

Kazuhiro Nakahashi, Dmitri Sharov · 1995

In order to take full advantage of the tetrahedral and the prismatic grids for three-dimensional flow problems, a new algorithm to generate an unstructured surface grid is developed that is capable of handling arbitrary geometries with minimum user interventions. The basic idea of the method is to a p ply the advancing front method directly to the body surface in the physical space. This procedure allows precise control of the mesh sizes by monitoring the local variations of the surface slope with minimum input data. The surface boundaries are also discretized by a similar procedure with the surface grid generation.
