Sounding mechanism of singing sand

The musical sound from the singing sand was observed with a synchroscope, and the frequency analysis was performed. With repeated application of forces the musical sound from the singing sand decreases and finally disappears. Recovery of the musical sound from such wasted singing sand was tried. For the purpose of investigating the character of the particles of the singing sand, the noise wave emitted from it under a large load was studied. It is concluded that the characteristics of noise wave from the singing sand depends on the friction properties of the sand particles of comparatively uniform sizes and of smooth surfaces. This fact seems to be closely related to the mechanism of musical sound emission from the singing sand.
