DoD Teleport¿Network Management Evolution and Challenges
Brian Baucom, Mark Krikorian · 2006
The Department of Defense (DoD) Teleport Program integrates, manages, and controls the communications interfaces between the Defense Information System Network and satellite communications assets at a single point of presence. The DoD Teleport Management and Control System (TMCS) provides integrated and automated control functions for satellite earth terminals, network and baseband equipment, and other facility-specific items located at a DoD Teleport site. TMCS replaces or augments equipment-specific management systems and provides aggregated monitoring and control of most Teleport equipment, utilizing an open architecture based on commercial standards and a tailored commercial off-the-shelf product. TMCS has matured over the past 3 years during Teleport's Generation One and will continue to mature through the next three generations of Teleport, integrating other advanced communications capability and providing essential situational awareness. This paper provides an overview of TMCS and highlights the evolution of and challenges involved in facilitating network operations and control in the DoD Teleport environment
