How to use satellite communications for SCADA
D.W. Tillery · Pipe line industry · 1984
The evolution of low-cost transmit/receive earth stations has made satellite communication a viable alternative to leased lines for pipeline supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) applications. A satellite network for a SCADA system with 150 remote locations can be installed for about $2.5 million, with a monthly channel cost of $5000 or less. Compared with an equivalent leased-lined network, a satellite system is more efficient and reliable, easier to expand, and cheaper to operate.
