SEQUEL as a Language for Document Retrieval

Abstract Traditionally the information retrieval community has avoided the type of data base management systems used in business applications. In this article it is shown how SEQUEL, a language designed for use in a data base management system, is potentially suited to a document retrieval system. The disadvantages of SEQUEL as it currently exists are discussed, and some extensions are proposed which appear to eliminate many of these disadvantages.
